Lava Red Sea Salt (coarse) details and description

Hawaiian Lava Red Sea Salt is made using traditional Hawaiian reipes - hand-mixing baked 'alaea clay with natural sea salt.

The original lava red sea salt (or pa'i kai ula ula in local dialect) was discovered many thousands of years ago when a brine shrimp bed near Hanapepe overflowed on the Hawaiian Island of Kaua'i during a heavy rain storm. The resultant red salt was discovered as the sun dried out the shrimp bed.

Lava Red Sea Salt is used in Hawaii for local rituals (eg for face painting and blessing new canoes) in healing and for curing and flavouring fish and meat.
