Ingredients

For the recipe:
  • 3-4 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tsp Steenbergs Deli Rub
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 tbsp stout or ale
  • 25g melted butter
  • 1 whole egg + 1 egg yolk, beaten
  • 200g mature cheddar (or similar hard cheese), grated

Cheese on toast is a classic light quick meal, comfort food, great for a quick supper. We often add gherkins (or any pickles), tomatoes or chillies for added texture and flavour. 

Method

Begin by toasting the sourdough slices on both sides.

Mix the deli rub with the Worcestershire Sauce and stout and blend to a paste.

Add the other ingredients and mix until fully combined.

Divide evenly over the toast and place under a hot grill for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.

Eat immediately!
