Anise Seed Ground is a fine, light brown powder. It comes from anise seeds, which are tiny, oval and crescent-shaped.
Aniseed Ground has a distinctive liquorice flavour that’s not too strong or lingering, which is great in biscuits or cakes, especially in Germany and Italy.
Axel’s Tasting Notes: Sweet: distinct liquorice flavour but not too lingering.
More about Aniseed Ground
Anise is a delicate, annual herb of the parsley family, which grows to 50 cm tall and has feathery, flat, serrated leaves.
The seeds are harvested after the plant has flowered in late summer. When the fruit has been picked, they are dried in a warm, ventilated area with some direct sunlight.
When dry, the heads are rubbed to separate the fruit from the flowers and then sieved. Aniseed spice is the fruit, which contains two tiny seeds (3 mm long).
