Barberries, or barberry, are a deep red colour and have a pleasant acidic tartness with hints of currants. Try barberries in rice dishes or made into a jelly to go with lamb, or add to ras al hanut dishes to add extra depth to it rounded spiciness. Barberries are great in a saffron pilaf or zereshk polow, a gorgeous Iranian rice dish of rice with barberries.
Steenbergs Barberry is a small, oblong red berry that are soft and have a nice, slightly sour fruity taste. Barberries become soft and release their flavours when fried lightly in butter or oil. try mixing crushed barberries with salt and rubbing onto lamb kebabs before grilling or barbecuing.
