Steenbergs Organic Cumin Seed

Steenbergs Organic Cumin Seed is a must-have of your spice cupboard – it ranks second in usage after black pepper. It’s a core ingredient in Indian curries. Organic Cumin has a distinctive smoky, earthy taste.
A Cumin Seed is 5 mm long, tapered at both ends, slightly curved. They range in colour from pale brown to khaki and have a dullish colour. Each organic cumin seed has fine ridges along its length and a hair like tail.
The aroma of organic cumin is pungent, warm, earthy, lingering and sweet; the flavour of cumin is pungent, warming, earthy and slightly – but pleasantly – bitter. Cook with cumin for curries, add to Lebanese fish dishes, kofte in Turkey and in Tex-Mex chili con carne. Cumin is fabulous in breads. The fragrance of roasted cumin, often with coriander, leaves an everlasting impression of Southern Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine
Axel’s Tasting Notes: Cumin is Pungent: earthy, warming, and with a slight bitterness. Dry roast cumin seeds to get a more intense flavour, with hints of nuttiness, before adding to a curry.
Food Pairing: Beef mince for mince or burgers, vegetable dishes, pulses, lentils, curry powders, tandoori masalas and the popular Bengali mix, panch phoron.
