Steenbergs Organic Ginger Powder Fairtrade

Ginger Powder Fairtrade is a light coloured ginger spice. Its flavour is sweet and pungent with a powerful bite that’s nasal, but with a definite lemony freshness. Ginger is great in baking and in curry and Asian recipes.

In 2005, organic Fairtrade Ginger Powder was one of the first spices in Steenbergs Fairtrade spices. It’s grown for us in Sri Lanka, where it’s hand processed to clean and dry before being ground.

Axel’s Tasting Notes: Pungent and Aromatic; aroma is sweet and pungent with a lemony freshness. The flavour is sweet, spicy and warm.

Food Pairing: Baking – parkin, gingerbread snaps or biscuits, cakes; chicken soup, sautéed vegetables, roast chicken, pork; Curries; Asian; red meat before barbecuing – rub ginger, garlic and black pepper onto steak for an hour before cooking.

Axel Steenberg reminisces: ‘I just love the smell of ginger powder, it really gets the mouth watering and every new batch sets me off on a flurry of baking – it reminds me of childhood days when mum used to bake delicious ginger biscuits and that smell of ginger mixed with melted butter and the sweetness of golden syrup used to just pervade the whole house.’
