Steenbergs Organic Ginger Powder

Steenbergs Organic Ginger is a premium cooking spice, essential for baking. It has a strong, clean flavour with lemony overtones.
Organic ginger adds warmth to curry mixes and barbecue blends. It improves the flavour of bland foods and cuts the fattiness of rich meats. Organic Ginger Powder is great for baking, think gingersnaps, gingerbread, coffee cakes, fruit breads and muffins.
Ginger comes from rhizome of a tropical perennial plant, Zingiber officinale. It grows tall leafy shoots over 1 metre high, which die down annually. It is ginger root (the rhizome) that is the source of the spice. The rhizome grows underground in tuberous joints, creating something like a knuckled hand with swollen, plump fingers. Ginger rhizomes are encircled in scales, covered in a beige coloured skin that covers the pale tan fibrous flesh.
The aroma and flavour of fresh ginger is sweet, pungent and lemony. Early harvested ginger is sweeter and more tender; this is used for crystallised ginger. Later harvested ginger is pungent and fibrous, so is used for the culinary spice.
Axel’s Tasting Notes: Pungent, warm, medicinal with lemon notes.
