Product Description

Organic Honeybush Tea is a sweet, honey-like and fruity herbal infusion, sourced from South Africa. It is sometimes simply called Bush Tea. It is naturally free from caffeine and low in tannins. In many ways, organic honeybush tea is similar to rooibos with a light flavour and no bitterness, though it has a delicate ginger-like undertone.

Honeybush comes from Cyclopia intermedia, an indigenous shrub from the Cape fynbos family. Honeybush shrubs grow in the coastal regions of the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces. The leaves are picked during the flowering season to make the tea, and only come from wild harvesting, as no commercial plantations exist. The picked honeybush leaves are fermented in a preheated baking oven to toast them, during which step the leaves change from green to a dark-brown colour and the richer, sweeter taste develops.

Tea brewing: brew with 1 teaspoon of organic honeybush leaf tea per 2-cup pot (2.5g per 180ml water). Add boiling water, infuse for 5 minutes. Do not add milk, but some sugar (or honey) may be great. In South Africa, honeybush is brewed stronger and some milk is added.

Tasting notes: Light, no bitterness, sweet and fruity with a hint of ginger.
