Product Description

Steenbergs Organic Mace Ground is a premium gourmet spice. It has a pleasant aromatic smell with a warm, pungent taste. Traditionally used for flavouring cakes, sausages, burgers, puddings and buns.

Mace comes from the same tree as nutmeg. It is softer flavoured than nutmeg and grows as a lace-like covering over the nutmeg’s outer shell. It is a bright red colour that dries to a lighter orange colour.

Steenbergs sources the highest quality organic Mace Powder from Indonesia or Sri Lanka which it packs in small batches in North Yorkshire for maximum taste. Steenbergs organic mace is a pungent but mild spice that goes well with fish, vegetables and meat but in smallish quantities so 1 tsp is enough for 500g. Mace is essential for fruit cooking and has an affinity to cherries.

Axel’s Tasting Notes: Mace is Pungent: sweet, camphorous, warming with a fresher taste than nutmeg.

Food Pairing: Pickles, pumpkin pie, cheese and cheese sauces, béchamel sauce, egg dishes (soufflés), terrines and pâtés.
