Steenbergs Organic Malay Masala Curry Mix

Steenbergs Organic Malay Curry Powder is one of Axel Steenberg’s favourite blends, which he loves just to use as a general seasoning to liven up whatever is in the pot. Malay Curry Powder is based on the traditional curries of Malaysia which are heavily influenced by Tamil and the British themselves, who brought their passion for Indian curry to Malaysia. Steenbergs Organic Malay Masala is Mamak food, which is the food of Malay Tamil Muslims, and has similarities to classic Southern Indian cuisine with a local twist, coming from local ingredients (lemon grass) and some Chinese ones, such as the use of soy sauce and star anise. In Steenbergs Organic Malay Masala, we have reduced the level of coriander and removed the fenugreek, while increasing the level of cinnamon and adding anise notes with fennel seed powder. This is probably one of our favourite Steenbergs curry mixes. Steenbergs Malay Curry Powder is particularly good with fish or vegetables and makes a delicious curry with coconut milk and a few teaspoons of Steenbergs Organic Malay Masala – it is quite mild, add chilli for additional heat if required.
