Product Description

Steenbergs Organic Masala Chai spices is our core spice mix for making chai drinks. It’s the spices in Steenbergs Organic Gingerbread Chai, which enables you to make it yourself as strong as you like.

It’s a spicy version of chai spices with a twist of black pepper for warmth. Steenberg Organic Masala Chai brings together:

  • The sweet woody flavours of cardamom and cinnamon;
  • The pungent aromatics of nutmeg and clove;
  • The refreshing warmth of ginger and black pepper.

Preparing masala chai from scratch is easy: Put half to 1 teaspoon of masala chai, 2 teaspoons of black tea (Assam or English Breakfast Tea) and a couple of teaspoons of sugar into a pan. Add a mugful of liquid (50:50 of water: milk) and bring to the boil, simmer for around 5 minutes. Then strain into a mug and enjoy.

Sophie’s comment: ‘If you are adding this spice mix to a tea it will depend on strength of spice preference and what your base tea is, but I would start with a half teaspoon as a rough guide per cup of water and tea. You can also add the spice mix to a tea infuser with the tea.’
