Steenbergs Organic Star Anise Ground is premium star anise that’s been ground to a coarse powder. It has a sweet, liquorice flavour. It’s widely used in Chinese and Southeast Asian cuisine.
Steenbergs sources the highest quality organic Star Anise from northern Vietnam, which is hand sorted and packed to give you the best organic star anise we can find. This is ground down for convenience and to use in Steenbergs Chinese 5 Spice.
Ground Star Anise has sweet anise, liquorice flavours. It is essential for Chinese and South East Asian dishes. Use organic star anise to make a Chinese master stock, to flavour pork spare ribs with soy sauce, a pinch of sugar and a couple of star anise, or place under white fish when boiling it in milk or a court bouillon – it adds flavour and stops it sticking to the base of the pan.
Axel’s Tasting Notes: Pungent: liquorice, pungent, lingering, numbing, leaving the palate feeling refreshed and stimulated. Reminds me of cloves and cassia.
Food Pairing: Chicken, pork, pumpkin, root vegetables, great in stocks or sweet glazes.
