Steenbergs Organic Turmeric Fairtrade

Organic Turmeric Fairtrade is sustainable, ethically sourced turmeric powder. Steenbergs sources its premium Organic Fairtrade Turmeric from a farmers’ cooperative in Sri Lanka, which we’ve been working with for over 20 years.

Organic Turmeric Fairtrade is ground from the rhizome of the turmeric plant. It has a distinctive yellow colour and a warm, dry, earthy flavour. It is found in almost all curries, pickles and to flavour rice. But it’s not just for Indian foods, so enjoy in chermoula, a Persian butter bean stew, or add it to turmeric latte.

More about Turmeric

Turmeric, Curcuma longa, is a tropical perennial plant, typically coming from Asia.

Large thin leaves grow from the base of the plant. It has yellowish-white flowers. Its rhizomes are short, thick and grey on the outside and brownish-yellow inside.

To harvest, turmeric is lifted. It is sold as fresh or boiled and dried for 14 days. When dry, it is cleaned and usually ground to a bright yellow powder.
