Steenbergs Mince Pies Recipe
This recipe makes 20 small/10 large mince pies, make great presents when you are going out or great for entertaining at home.

Ingredients
Pastry
- 200g organic plain flour
- pinch salt
- 110g butter, cubed or an equal mix of butter and lard
- 2-3 tbsp very cold water
For Mincemeat filling
- 225g vegetarian suet
- 125g organic mixed peel
- 225g organic sultanas
- 225g organic raisins
- 225g organic currants
- 175g Fairtrade demerara sugar
- 1 tsp Steenbergs organic Fairtrade mixed spice
- 1 orange, zest and juice
- 60ml/2fl oz brandy

Method
For the Pastry

Place the flour, butter and salt into a large clean bowl.

Rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, working as quickly as possible to prevent the dough becoming warm.

Add the water to the mixture and using a cold knife stir until the dough binds together, add more cold water a teaspoon at a time if the mixture is too dry.

Wrap the dough in cling film and chill for a minimum of 15 minutes.
For the mincemeat filling

Mix all the ingredients well and pack the remainder into sterilized jars for xmas presents.

Preheat the oven to 180C

Roll out the pastry and cut out circles to fit your tart tin.

Fill the pies and top with star decorations/lids/criss cross pastry or leave open.

Glaze with beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes, cool and enjoy with your Steenbergs mulled wine.
