Fleur De Sel Sun Dried Sea Salt standard jar 80g Steenbergs details and description

Steenbergs Fleur de Sel is a deliciously tasty table salt.  Produced by a small, traditional salt business in the Algarve, Portugal, Steenbergs Fleur de Sel or "flower of salt" is hand-harvested daily from the surface of the salt-pan like cream from milk. Steenbergs Fleur de Sel has a strongly mineral bouquet from the naturally occurring trace elements that highlights your food flavours.  Steenbergs Fleur de Sel is a great table salt that crumbles easily between your fingers - perfect for sauted potatoes or crush with Tellicherry peppercorns or fragrant fresh herbs and use for seasoning any meat.  For more information about our great salt producer and their ethos on improving the environment as well as traditionally harvesting salt please head to our blog.

Steenbergs Fleur de Sel - or in Portuguese flor de sal - is made by Necton in the Algarve under the watchful eye of their chief salt maker, Joao Novalho.  The exquisite crystals are skimmed delicately every day in the morning from the surface of the salt pans, which allows them to form all afternoon and through the night, and they range is shape and size from small little crystals to larger chunks with an above average moisture level.  The flavour is robust and sharper than fleur de sel de Guerande but is a strong flavour reminiscent of the Atlantic rather than the softer tones of the North Sea.  Steenbergs Fleur de Sel works best used in robust dishes such as Polvo Guisado (Octopus Stew) or perhaps Malaysian Style Portuguese Grilled Fish.

For more on salt, read Axel Steenberg's blog or try Wikipedia.  This wonderful salt producer is part of the Slow Food Movement.  Steenbergs Fleur de Sel is approved for use in organic food production by the Organic Food Federation (GB-ORG-04).

Fleur de Sel is part of Steenbergs range of specialist culinary ingredients, which are packed, blended and distributed at our artisan little factory in Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK.  For your local stockist, search the Where to See Us section of the website or call us on 01765 640 088.
