Steenbergs Organic Hot Curry Powder is a hotter version of Steenbergs Oragnic Madras Curry Powder . Curries - as we know them - are an invention of the British Raj. They are thought to have been invented in the 19th century for members of the East India Company. Steenbergs has developed its Steenbergs own range of organic Curry Powders that are really versatile. The core elements to Steenbergs Organic Hot Curry Powder are the sweet spices - almost like Steenbergs Organic Mixed Spice - of organic cinnamon and organic nutmeg powder. Pungent spices such as organic cloves , organic cardamom and organic cumin add a depth of character. Steenbergs Organic Hot Curry Powder is organic chilli - twice as much as in Steenbergs Organic Madras Curry Powder - and organic fenugreek powder, organic black pepper and organic Sri Lankan ginger give it some bite; Steenbergs organic mild and hot curry powders simply have higher/lower amounts of organic chilli powder. These almost conflicting flavours are melded together by amalgamating spices organic fennel seeds, organic coriander seeds and organic turmeric (which also gives it a characteristic yellow colour). At Steenbergs , we add a little powdered organic garlic and organic onion to increase the versatility of the blend.
