Cheese on toast is a classic light quick meal, comfort food, great for a quick supper. We often add gherkins (or any pickles), tomatoes or chillies for added texture and flavour.
Deli Rarebit Recipe
Intensely savoury cheese-on-toast spiced up with Deli Rub spice blend
Ingredients
| 3-4 slices | sourdough bread |
| 1 tsp | Steenbergs Deli Rub |
| 1 tsp | Worcestershire Sauce |
| 3 tbsp | stout or ale |
| 25g | melted butter |
| 1 | whole egg + 1 egg yolk, beaten |
| 200g | mature cheddar (or similar hard cheese), grated |
Method
- Begin by toasting the sourdough slices on both sides.
- Mix the deli rub with the Worcestershire Sauce and stout and blend to a paste.
- Add the other ingredients and mix until fully combined.
- Divide evenly over the toast and place under a hot grill for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
- Eat immediately!
