Gyokuro Loose Leaf Green Tea 125g Tin details and description
Steenbergs Gyokuro is a shade-grown, intensely-coloured Japanese loose leaf green tea. Gyokuro is a full-flavoured green tea, with a pleasant, clean and refreshing flavour. There are hints of steamed spinach and perhaps a little nuttiness. Gyokuro brews a very bright, clear green brew.
In late April/early May and about 3 weeks before picking, the tea bushes are covered with bamboo or straw shades. This shade encourages the tea plants to develop extra chlorophyll to compensate for the lower light levels, so creating the distinctive bright green Gyokuro. Also, the tea leaves are smaller and very tender. After picking, the leaves are steamed to stop the fermentation process and lock in the flavours. Next the tea leaves are dried using an oven-fired method.
How to brew Steenbergs Gyokuro leaf green tea - into a warmed teapot, put 1 teaspoon of gyokuro tea per cup . Bring fresh water to boil and pour over gyokuro. Steep for 3 minutes. Once the water level is low, add more water until the tea leaves no longer give any flavour. For more detail on brewing, visit Ingredientia.
