Lapsang Souchong Loose Leaf Tea 100g Steenbergs details and description
Steenbergs Loose Lapsang Souchong Tea is a big leafed Chinese black tea with a delightfully delicate smoky flavour. Laspang Souchong Tea with its pine smoke flavour is one of those teas that you love or hate – it’s the Marmite of the tea world as there’s just no mid point. Steenbergs loose leaf Lapsang Souchong tea is grown in Fujian Province in China.
Lapsang souchong tea means "smoky tea variety". The story goes that lapsang souchong tea was invented during the Qing era when the passage of armies delayed the annual drying of the tea leaves in the Wuyi hills. Eager to satisfy demand, the tea producers sped up the drying process by having their workers dry the tea leaves over fires made from local pines.
Lapsang souchong's flavour is strong and smoky, similar to the smell of a homely piney wood fire. The flavour of the pine smoke is complements the natural taste of the black tea, but should not overwhelm it.
Brewing tip: Use a warmed tea-pot and put 1 heaped teaspoon per person of Steenbergs Lapsang Souchong tea leaves into the pot, add freshly boiled water and leave to infuse for 5 minutes.
