Tea brick Large Chinese pavillion Boxed Gift Steenbergs details and description

Tea bricks (zhūan chá) are nowadays a great gift idea for tea lovers and those who have everything.  In the past, tea bricks were a very common way to transport tea in caravans along the Silk Road.  To protect the tea from the climate, it was processed and shaped into bricks.  The drying process involved pressing the tea into its classic brick shape, often with a decorative look to it.  Tea was also used as a currency and you get a hint of this by the segments that are pressed into the back.  For more on tea bricks, try Wikipedia.

These larger tea bricks are: 24cm x 19cm x 2.3cm.

The tea brick weighs 1100grams and is made of 100% China Black Tea. It comes with its own gift box and information leaflet - great present for tea lovers.

To loosen the tea: tea bricks are hard and compressed.  This is how they are meant to be.  The way to loosen the tea is traditionally to use a needle or knife, but you can use a screwdriver or chisel.  Holding the brick flat to the surface, try and find an edge within the tea and then patiently try to loosen it.  Once the needle or sharp point is within the tea brick, you need carefully to insert it further and rotate and press until it is loose.  Be careful that you do not injure yourself.
