Sharmini's Cookery School win awards

Sharmini's Cookery School win awards

One of the ways in which we bring our spices to life here at Steenbergs is to collaborate with chefs and cooks from a wide variety of cuisines and cultures. They kindly agree to share their knowledge and recipes with us so that our customers have more inspiration for their spices and a greater library of recipes to try.

One of our long-standing partnerships is with Sharmini Thomas, of Sharmini’s Inspirational Indian Cuisine Cookery School and we are delighted that Sharmini has won 10 different business awards this year.

Among her awards are:

  • Best Curry School Award England 2021 from 10th English curry Awards
  • Best sole trader from Federation of Small Business Awards
  • Tripadvisor's Travellers' Choice Award
  • The Award for Excellence in Culinary Experiences in England in the Travel and Hospitality Awards
  • Specialist Cookery School of the Year-Yorkshire (York) in the Prestige Yorkshire Awards.
  • Gold Award for the Best Consumer UK Business at the Best Business Women Awards

She also won The York Press’ Trader of the week and you can read more about it here: https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/23045189.york-indian-cookery-tutor-sharmini-thomas-wins-10-awards/

Sharmini has been teaching Indian cookery for over 25 years and currently runs classes at Joseph Rowntree in York. She teaches both individual and corporate clients and runs team building workshops too.

Her recipes are packed full of flavour (and Steenbergs spices!) and prove very popular. We are very pleased to feature several on our website, including:

Chicken Tikka Masala

Bombay Potatoes

Meen (Fish) Curry

We stock a fabulous starter set of Steenbergs spices, specially designed to cater for all of Sharmini's recipes as well as a delicious, unique recipe for Sharmini's Garam Masala, passed down to her through the generations of her family.
