Medieval Mulled Wine Mix (Hippocras) - Single Serve - Old Hamlet details and description
Old Hamlet's classic sugar and spice mix to create a traditional spiced red wine called Hippocras (hipocras or hypocras), which can be served warm or cold. A full recipe is included on the envelope. For more on the traditional drink of Hippocras or spiced medieval wine, go to Wikipedia.
Instructions for Making Hippocras: Pour one 75cl bottle of red wine into a saucepan, then add the contents of one Medieval Mulled Wine sachet; or 1½ teaspoons per glass. Heat gently, stirring occasionally. Do not let boil, but serve hot. For special occasions, add sliced rounds of fresh lemon or orange.
Traditionally, it would have been drunk at room temperature, so you can chill and enjoy as a spiced red wine.
For a non-alcoholic alternative, replace red wine with apple or cranberry juice.
