Organic Dill Herb Standard Jar - 16g - Steenbergs details and description

Organic Dill Herb - sometimes called organic dill tips - are aromatic dry herbs that release a fresh, herby taste akin to parsley with a hint of anise.  Organic dill herb has a dominant personality and a well-rounded tang.  Organic dill tips are used in salads and as garnishes. Try Steenbergs organic dill with fish, lamb, pork, poultry or add it as flavour to salads. Steenbergs organic dill is great when added to a simple cucumber salad, one of Sophie's specialities.

Dill plants look really delicate and wimpy, but they are actually a really hardy annual. Dill plants grow to about 1m (3ft) high. The dill plant has wispy, hair-like leaves on the top of the smooth stems. The dill flowers are small, pale-yellow flowers. Fresh dill herb which is also called dill weed, dill tips or dill tops has a parsley-like aroma, with hints of anise. On drying, the dill tips become a dark-green and are processed to be fine thin lengths about 2-4mm long. The aroma is more intense than the fresh herb, so dill herb is grassy, aromatic with flavours of parsley and anise. The umbrella-shaped flower heads produce the fruits after flowering and are pale brown with three fine, lighter coloured lines along the length of the seed. Dill fruit has two seeds, both of which are 4mm long and oval, however they usually split on processing so you normally only get half the fruit. Dill seeds are robust in flavour with a clear anise character and a hint of caraway. For more on dill, try Gernot Katzer Spice Pages and Wikipedia.

Organic dill is fabulous with salads like a cucumber salad, like our Granny Salad / Yorkshire Salad recipe, or sprinkled over cold smoked fish, for example over a smoked salmon or gravad lax.  Or you could use it in making gravad lax - see Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's recipe on the BBC website.  Or for more ideas try Allrecipes.
