Steenbergs Smoked Salt is a delicately flavoured sea salt from Italy.  Smoked sea salt adds a different twist to drinks like Bloody Mary - or a Virgin Mary - and Axel Steenberg uses it as a rub on chicken to give it a certain panache before roasting in the oven.


Italian smoked salt has a dull brown colour, with a salty mineral flavour and a definite hint of smoke.  The crystals are hard and crunchy for mouth feel, giving a texture that is best used cooked into your food rather than used as a finishing salt, although sprinkled over tomatoes it will dissolve quickly and impart a smoky bonfire taste.  Italian smoked salt has a strong and direct flavour that creates a great depth to casseroles and stews.


Ideas for starters on how to use Steenbergs Italian Smoked Salt include adding to casseroles or stews, rubbing over roast chicken, a pinch tossed with steamed green vegetables and some butter, sprinkled over a tomato salad or over poached eggs with a dash of ground pepper.  or why not replace the salt in quiche lorraine with some smoked salt to complement the bacon flavours perfectly?  For these recipes, just replace the salt mentioned with Steenbergs Italian Smoked Salt.
