Organic Parsley Dried Herb Standard Jar - 8g Steenbergs details and description
Steenbergs Organic Parsley is a tasty and fresh-flavoured example of this classic of British herbs. Organic parsley is Britain's favourite herb. Sweet and rich, organic parsley brings out the flavour of other spices and herbs. Organic parsley also seems to lessen the need for salt in soups, stocks and sauces. Use Steenbergs organic parsley whole or crumbled for breading, or mixed with other herbs for a bouquet garni.
Parsley comes in two major types - curly parsley (Petroselinum crispum) and Italian flat-leafed parsley (Petroselinum crispum neapolitanum). Curly parsley grows to 25cm high (10 inches) and has a short green stem that branches into small, tightly bunched, bright-green leaves; it is the classic herb of many kitchen gardens. Flat leaf parsley differs in that the leaves are darker green and flatter than for the curled parsley. Both parsley plants have similar mild, subtle lemony and pepepry taste as well as some grass-like flavours that complement most foods rather than overpowering them. The flat leaf parsley has a better flavour for cooking that curly parsley. I find that parsley is great as a garnish or within lighter foods like omelettes or scrambled eggs. Parsley is also deceptively good at being dehydrated and the dried herb that is sold at Steenbergs has a large amount of the flavour profile of fresh parsley. Parsley is indispensible to European and so British cookery, and is the UK's most popular herb. parsley is found in some of the traditional herb blends, such as fines herbes, mixed herbs and herbes de Provence. We find that parsley works well with fish, eggs, tomatoes (including salads), rice and with most vegetables, such as sprinkled over potatoes. For recipes using parsley, try the BBC recipe site.
