- Wash and soak split beans overnight. Drain. Add some salt to beans. Heat the ghee. Add whole red chillies, when they turn black remove ghee fromheat and cool a little. Mix all remaining ingredients with sliced onions. Spread evenly over the ghee. Then over the onions spread the beans. Do not stir. Do not add water.
- Close the pan with tight seal, eg with pastry. On low heat cook for 1½ hours. Before serving, remove onions and discard, stir beans with ghee.
